A light switch pulled forward out of the wall, showing its cables and the metal mounting plate behind it C1 · Residential Rewire, Gladstone

Residential wiring

Older Southland homes are full of tired wiring: rubber-insulated cable, too few sockets and circuits doing three jobs at once. We rewire carefully, room by room, and keep the mess to a minimum.

  • Full and partial rewires, including villas and 1950s bungalows
  • Extra sockets, USB outlets and dedicated appliance circuits
  • Kitchen and laundry circuits for renovations
  • Outdoor power for sheds, garages and spa pools

1 to 5 days

Shops, offices, cafes, workshops and small factories. We work early, late or around your trading so the doors stay open, and we keep your records straight for your landlord and insurer.

  • Shop and office fit-outs, including lighting and data
  • Three-phase supply for machinery, welders and compressors
  • Distribution boards, sub-mains and metering
  • Planned maintenance and fault finding

Inside a modern switchboard: white circuit breakers and protection units wired with red, blue and white cables C3 · Switchboards New board, Rosedale

Switchboard upgrades

If your board still has ceramic fuses, a wooden backing or no RCD protection, it's time. A new board protects people from shocks, protects wiring from overloads, and makes room for a heat pump or EV charger.

  • Old fuse boards replaced with modern circuit breakers
  • RCD protection, so a fault cuts the power before it hurts anyone
  • Every circuit tested and clearly labelled
  • Spare ways left for whatever you add later
Typical time
1 day, power off about 4 hours

From $1,950

Close-up of a white wall-mounted heat pump unit with its louvre open and a small temperature display C4 · Heat pumps Bedroom heat pump, Grasmere

Heat pump installs

We size the unit to the room, not the brochure. Then we supply it, mount it, run the pipework neatly and wire it on its own circuit. Built for Southland winters, and for rentals that need proper heating.

  • Sizing based on the room, the insulation and the windows
  • High-wall, floor console and ducted options
  • Dedicated circuit and an outdoor isolation switch
  • Tidy pipe covers and a sensible spot for the outdoor unit

Usually 1 day

A hand plugging a charging cable into a white wall-mounted EV charger fixed to a brick wall C5 · EV chargers Carport charger, Waverley

EV charger installs

A proper wall charger is faster and safer than a plug in the garage. We check your supply first, then fit the charger on its own circuit with load management, so it never trips the main when the house is busy.

  • Supply check before you buy a charger
  • 7 kW single-phase, or 22 kW where there's three-phase
  • Load management and scheduled off-peak charging
  • Garage, carport or post-mounted for the driveway
Typical time
Half a day

Dozens of small pendant lights with warm bulbs hanging at different heights in front of a dark patterned wall C6 · Lighting Cafe lighting, Invercargill CBD

LED lighting

Good LED lighting cuts the power bill and makes a room feel finished. We help you pick fittings that suit the space, put them where they actually help, and wire them to switches and dimmers that make sense.

  • Downlight swaps and new lighting layouts
  • Pendants, feature lights and dimmers
  • Under-cabinet strips and bathroom lighting
  • Outdoor, security and sensor lights

Same day

An open timber-framed wall during a renovation, with pipes and electrical boxes fixed between the studs before the linings go on C7 · New builds Bathroom reno, Georgetown

New builds and renovations

We work from the plans with your builder, so the cables are in before the linings go up and nothing gets chased in later. On renovations, we tell you early what the old wiring is like, before the walls close in.

  • Electrical layout from your plans, with a walk-through on site
  • Pre-wiring for data, TV, alarms and a future EV charger
  • Staged to the builder's programme, from pre-line to fit-off
  • Testing and a Certificate of Compliance at handover

  • A written report with photos and fixes in order of priority
  • A Certificate of Compliance for any work we carry out

FAQBefore you ring

Things people ask us

Can't see your question? Ring 03 218 3249 and ask. You'll get an electrician on the phone, not a script.

What is a Certificate of Compliance, and will I get one?

It's the paperwork that records what electrical work was done and that it was tested. We issue one for every job that needs one, and you get a copy to keep with your house records. Insurers and future buyers often ask for it, so it's worth keeping.

Will my switchboard cope with a heat pump or an EV charger?

Often, yes. Older boards and smaller supplies sometimes need an upgrade first. We check the supply and the board before you buy anything, and tell you straight if it needs work and what that costs.

How do your quotes and call-out fees work?

Planned work gets a fixed quote in writing, with anything we can't see yet shown as a clear allowance. Call-outs are a fixed fee that covers the first half hour, then time in 15-minute blocks. We tell you the rate on the phone before we come.

Can you work around milking times?

Yes. Shed work is planned for between milkings, and we keep the plant running wherever we can. For bigger jobs we agree a timetable with you before the day, including what happens if something runs over.

Do you take on small jobs?

Yes. A single socket, a dead light or a hard-wired smoke alarm is fine. We often fit small jobs in when we're nearby, and saving up a few little jobs for one visit keeps the cost down.
